1 Corinthians 12

1 Corinthians 12 – Working together

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.” 1 Corinthians 12:4

Although there are many members in the church, there is only one body. The head of the body is the Lord Jesus Christ. In the body every member is endowed with the spiritual gift. One may have the gift of teaching while the other has the gift of hospitality. Another may have the gift of giving while others have the gift of shepherding. Although there are many different gifts, they are all empowered by the same Lord and by the same Spirit.

God has given the Christian saints spiritual gifts for a very special reason. Paul explains to the church in Ephesus that the gifts were given “to equip His people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” In other words, the spiritual gifts are to be used for the development and encouragement of the body of Christ. Saints are to exercise them until “we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ!”

Are you a Christian that has been saved for very long time? If so, do you know what your spiritual gift is?  In the Bible, there are over 20 spiritual gifts mentioned. Every believer is endowed with at least one spiritual gift. If you don’t know what your spiritual gift is then perhaps it’s about time that you ask what it is so that you may use it for the glory of God!
