1 Corinthians 14

1 Corinthians 14 – Five words
But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue (1 Corinthians 14:19).

Paul was fully aware as to how much the Corinthians were trying to impress each other. Although they had many words of flattery and knowledge, Paul expressed that he would rather use 5 humble words of instruction.

Today, there are many churches in hot pursuit of being “big”. They boast about how many members they have or how big the church building is. Some brag as to the possessions they may have or the wealth they’ve obtained. All of this is done in the name of Jesus and the power of God.

This reminds me of a story I once heard from a Chinese missionary… After visiting the United States, the Chinese worker expressed how impressed he was as to what the US churches were able to do apart from God.

What a rebuke!

In Christianson, there is simply too much talking. Too much, look at what we’re doing, too much Conversation about wealth and achievements.

What is it that you really want from God? Yes, God is big, but he can’t use someone who’s busy elevating themselves over His person.
John the Baptist wrote, “He must increase, so that we may decrease”.   May God give you the wisdom to stay second, so that God may have the preeminence and be first in your life!
