1 Corinthians 7 – Holy Relationships

Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” 2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. 1 Corinthians 7:1-2

Many Christians saints (that’s you and me) from the Corinthian church were saved from extremely immoral religions. Some of these religions subscribed to diabolical practices such as temple prostitutes and living sacrifices. Although many of these religions were common in the Greek world, according to the Bible, were anti-god.

Because of the Corinthians religious history, there sprung up a debate as to what constituted a holy relationship before God; between a man and a woman. One of the questions that was raised was as to whether it was immoral to have sex before marriage. Paul made it very clear that their bodies were now temples of the living God. The Christians were responsible for treating their bodies as holy, for “they were not their own, but they have been purchased at a price.” Purchased as in, God bought them through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross.

With this in mind, Paul exhorted them that sex was meant to be experienced ONLY between a husband and wife.

Are you in an intimate relationship with someone that is not your husband or wife? Despite the unpopular view of preserving yourself until marriage, God has commanded that His saints keep their bodies pure, free from immorality and sexual misconduct. After all, how can anyone ask God for His blessings when they are living in a lifestyle contrary to what God has deemed right? My friend, if you want God’s blessing, then you need to do it God’s way!
