Acts 4

Acts 4

On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” Acts 4:5-7

What began as a pesky following had now become a formidable movement. The Hebrew leaders started to feel their authority challenged and their influence, threatened. This movement was made up of, mostly uneducated commoners. When the political pressures mounted, the Jewish leaders marshaled both Peter and John before the high-priestly leaders and asked them this question:

“By what power or by what name did you do this?”

The answer was quite simple. It was by the power of Jesus Christ! It is by His power; the blind began to see. It by His power the deaf could hear and the mute could speak again. It was by His power that the dead would rise and be alive once again.

Soldier, may the power of God compel us to pursue the high calling of our great Captain, the Lord Jesus Christ.
