Ephesians 6 – Wise Parenting

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4

Unfortunately, doctors don’t hand out instruction manuals when you first become a parent.  Parenting is hard, and every child presents their own unique challenges. Although this is the case, God has ingrained natural intuition in our genetic code. Some of the natural tendencies that we as parents have are love, protection, nourishment, and care.

So when it comes to “parenting” your child in the ways of the Lord, we need to realize that patience, firm love, and careful admonition can have a greater return on your investment over provoking your children to wrath.

With technology progressing, internet media becoming more accessible, and peer pressure mounting, it has become extremely challenging to be a “good” parent, especially in these modern days. God knows this. That’s why it’s so important to be sure you are walking with God.

In doing so, God can grant you wisdom as to how you should nurture your children, even when it hurts. Although the biblical proverb supports the approach of “spare the rod, spoil the child” God asks us to discipline them with “careful love” (Proverbs 13:24) and not with an angry heart. May you pursue the wisdom of God to parent your children in this very dark world.
