Luke 11

“No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light.” Luke 11:33

A couple years back, my family moved back into a town we had left a few years before. I set up a time to have lunch with a friend at a local pizza place. As our food arrived, I decided to do something I hadn’t done before in front of my friend, I asked if we could pray for our food. She said, “Of course! Yes, lets thank the Lord for our food.” I prayed quickly and as I munched on my slice of pepperoni I thought to myself, ‘I wonder if she’s a Christian too?’ As we continued to eat and talk I learned we went to the same church (different services). I had known her for over 5 years and we never once brought up the subject of faith.

I think this is a major challenge with many Christians today—not sharing their true identity with the world. In today’s verse this is exactly what Jesus is talking about. As a believer, you are called to shine God’ light in a dark world. Not hide it, especially not under “a basket.” What good is it if you know the truth about the most amazing gift on earth and don’t share it?! While Jesus isn’t asking us to propagate your faith with each and every person we meet, people should know there’s something unique and different about us based on how we live our lives. As warriors in this life, we know there’s a real fight between light and dark. Light always shines brighter in the dark. So, stand firm, shine bright and overcome darkness with the Light of Life!
