Mark 12

“For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” Mark 12:44

In a letter written to the church of Corinth Paul highlights the concept of giving. He wrote, “…whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).” In today’s passage, Jesus makes points out to his disciples that the widow’s small contribution of two coins is worth more to God than the large sums given by the rich. Why? Because she gave all “she had.” She really couldn’t afford to give those two coins, but she did. This is a lesson for us to always remember. We should give back to God without reluctance or compulsion. And we should do it with a cheerful heart knowing all the good things we have comes from God and we should be overjoyed to give it right back.
