Romans 12

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”Romans 12:12

The God of Israel is a holy God. When God’s people came before Him, they were instructed to bring an offering. In turn, the Jewish people would obey and bring offerings of either reconciliation or one of worship. These offerings could vary from different types of crops, to live animals. Either way, they were instructed to never come empty handed.

Today, God no longer asks His people to offer up animals as sacrifices. Christians today “are not [our] own, for [we] were bought with a price” 1 Corinthians 6:19b-20a. When we give our life to Jesus, we’re no longer our own property—we are God’s. Jesus purchased us with a great price; the blood He shed at the cross. In doing so, we are called to keep our bodies (our temple) free from sin, drugs and alcohol, and any impure sexual act that may enslave us. God has separated us from the things of the world for His glory.

Are you saved? Are you wrestling with sin that you know you have been saved from? May God give you the strength to break free from it, for you have the awesome power of the Holy Spirit dwelling inside you–right now!
