Romans 8

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:8

A common concern that new Christians seems to struggle with is the guilt of their past. Many realize that although they begin a new life, their past continues to stay with them. Unfortunately, there is nothing they can do about it. I can assure you, in my prior life, I not only did things that were embarrassing, but were also shameful. Trust me, if you’re wrestling with this issue, I can relate. There is very little pride in wronging and hurting people. The reality is, although we’re saved, there’s nothing we can do to make the many wrongs right.

Praise the Lord that He was fully aware of this fact and made an awesome provision. God said, Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

What does this mean? Although we cannot erase our past with our peers, God does so in the context of our record with Him. In other words, he takes our entire past and dumps it into the deep where no man can find it. He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. What makes God’s forgiveness so amazing is that He not only forgives our sins but He also forgets them… ALL OF THEM! When we come to know the Lord we start with a blank slate.

What’s stopping you from doing the same? Are you ashamed of your past? Well, don’t let that stop you from running to Jesus. You can start from scratch. May we come to that place where we can humble ourselves and start anew. God is waiting, are you ready?
