Acts 26

Acts 26

“At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense. ‘You are out of your mind, Paul!’ he shouted. ‘Your great learning is driving you insane.’ ‘I am not insane, most excellent Festus,’ Paul replied. ‘What I am saying is true and reasonable.  The king is familiar with these things, and I can speak freely to him. I am convinced that none of this has escaped his notice, because it was not done in a corner.’”Acts 26:24-26

Paul is making yet another stand against those that are denying Jesus for who He really is. This time it’s to Festus, the governor. Paul gives his personal account on the road to Damascus, explaining how he heard the voice of the Lord declaring that he was persecuting the Christians; and how he was in essence, persecuting the Lord himself. Paul mentioned how God had appointed him to evangelize to the gentile people, the reasons why the Hebrews seized him and wanted to take his life.

During Paul’s monologue, Festus couldn’t hear another word and declared him insane!

If you dare to proclaim the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the fact that He is the only way to heaven, then you better be prepared to hear the same conclusion, that you’re insane. Why insane? Because the message of the Gospel is an insult to the natural man. Festus was consumed with himself and his own personal glory. The message that Paul proclaimed condemned Festus spiritually. Apart from the truth, what else could he say?

May the Lord give us the strength to stand even when the world thinks that we have lost our minds. And should we lose our minds, at least we did so for Christ’s sake. To God be the glory.
