Galatians 1

Galatians 1 – The Pure Gospel

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8-9

The Gospel is very clear, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.” Jesus’s disciples understood the message, loud and clear. They would go on and preach this message, just as they heard it from the Lord. Paul would eventually learn of Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus. He too would hear the Gospel, just as the Lord taught it to him. After being saved, Paul would travel the world preaching the Good News of salvation.

Unfortunately, there were others who heard the Gospel and changed it. These heretics would pervert the Good News and peddle the Gospel for selfish reasons, others for financial gain.

Paul warned the Galatians that if anyone would preach any other Gospel other than the one Jesus spoke of, that they would be accursed, even if it were Paul himself!

Today, many religions and denominations claim Christ. Historical movement differentiates some. Other faiths are distinguished by a particular man, John Calvin and Martin Luther, are just a few. Although there are some minor differences among these great men of faith, what matters most is that that the Gospel has not changed. A man can only be saved by faith and faith alone. Works cannot save you “lest any man should boast” that he earned his way into heaven.

What are you resting your faith on? Is it good works, baptism, or faith in the blood of Christ—His work on the cross? If not, why not trust in the Lord and His work at Calvary today?
