John 16

John 16

“…it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you… When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. John 16:7b&13a

The Counselor, is none other than the Holy Spirit. When the Lord Jesus departed, He did not abandon us. Instead, He gave us the power of the Holy Spirit. Not to simply move us, but to live within us. And it’s by the Holy Spirit that we are able to exemplify Jesus, produce the fruits of the Holy Spirit and to ultimately bring great glory to our Commander-in-Chief!

It’s by the power of the Holy Spirit, that we are able to produce the characteristics of our beloved Commander. We’re able to supernaturally produce a Godlike kindness and mercy, something foreign to the rest of the world. Not only does the Holy Spirit produce spiritual fruit, but it also convicts us of sin; deepening our disdain for moral evil.

Let this meditation be part of your prayer, to deepen your hatred for sin and to become less like the world and more like our Commander. Let us be like King David and say, Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:23-24).
