2 Corinthians 1

2 Corinthians 1 – Daily Perils

“For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.” 2 Corinthians 1:8-9

Paul preached the gospel all over Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. During these missionary journeys, he never ceased to preach and teach the doctrine of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Throughout Paul’s travels, he led thousands of souls to Jesus. This did not come without a price. In many circumstances, Paul was severely persecuted. So much so that Paul wrote to the Corinthians that there was a time where he “felt that we had received the sentence of death.”

Although Paul unjustly received several lashings, was unrighteously stoned by the Hebrews, and unfortunately shipwrecked by the Romans; he would not be detoured from sharing the message of Jesus. It was important that the saints understood the tribulation Paul was enduring on their behalf.

Today, we have missionaries all over the world enduring hardships. Some are persecuted through beatings and physical violations. Others are being tortured and burned at the stake. All the while we sit in the comfort of our homes.

Are you suffering persecution? If not, I’d like to challenge you to pray and support the believers who are. Write a letter, send some financial support or physical items that could greatly help them in their time of duress. This is an exceptional way to “fellowship” with those who are in dire need.
