2 Corinthians 2 – Aroma of God

“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life…”2 Corinthians 2:14-16

When the Roman army returned from battle victoriously, the city would receive them with celebratory praise and incense sticks of sweet aroma.

The captain would come enter the city, followed by the jubilant troops. Behind the soldiers were the Roman captives, the prisoners of war.

The whole city could smell the incredible aroma emitted into the air. To the Roman troops, the scent was the smell of victory. To those who are enslaved, it was the scent of defeat.

Paul used the incense stick the Romans used as an example to a Christian testimony. For those who are faithful to the Lord Jesus, we are a sweet aroma of life to fellow believers. But to those who are without God, we “are the aroma of death leading to death!”

Have you ever wondered as to what kind of testimony you display, especially if you are a Christian? If so, the Lord commands you to be a bright light for Him. He has given you the power, and through obedience, you are to bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit. May God give you the discipline and willingness to be a bright light to all those you come cross, for Jesus sake.
