Luke 18

He asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” Luke 18:41-42

In today’s passage, we have two stories with a major lesson about personal requests and necessities known to God. The two main characters is a persistent widow (vs 1-8) and a blind beggar (vs 35-43). Their stories are similar in that they are both in need of an intervention. The slight difference is that the widow’s need was relational (seeking justice) and the beggars was physical (restoring his vision).

In verse 5, we see the judge finally grants the tenacious widow her request. He says, “because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.” Later, we read that the crowd rebuked the blind beggar “telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more.” That’s when Jesus enters center stage and notices him. Do you have a need in your life? We all do. What is the one request that comes to mind? Is it physical? Relational? Or is it personal? No matter what the need, God wants to hear it. He doesn’t get tired of hearing from us. God doesn’t roll His eyes and say, “Oh…. not this guy again.” No, God wants us to come to Him and be patient for an answer. Stand Strong in your faith and know that no matter what your need is….

#1 –  God can do it.

“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?” – Jeremiah 32:27

#2 – He is faithful to hear our prayers and answer them according to his will.

And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. – 1 John 5:14-15

Soldier, bolster your faith with the stories above and let your fearless Leader hear your request. After all, God can do anything according to His will.
