Romans 7

“What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, ‘You shall not covet.’” Romans 7:7

The Lord gave the law to the nation of Israel for an important reason. Initially, it’s easy to contemplate as to how anyone could be justified by it.  For example, when it states that “man should not covet” or “shall not lie,” an honest person would have to wonder how anyone could abide by it. After all, once someone has lied…how is it they can then say, “I have never lied?” The reality of this situation is that they can never undo this transgression.

So why did God introduce the law knowing His creation could not keep it? The answer is simple without it, we would never know that we fall short of His righteous standard. God’s standard is perfect and holy. It reveals that we cannot meet His requirement on our own.

With the law, we are left with a void knowing that we have fallen short. In doing so, the introduction to the remedy becomes easy… His name is Jesus! Only Christ was “sin apart” and “holy, undefiled.” For Jesus did not “come to destroy the law but came to fulfill (complete) it.”

The question now is, are you attempting to satisfy the law, or have you come to the place where you realize it’s impossible to do so? Only Christ can satisfy God’s standard. Not only did Jesus fulfill the law but He has come to satisfy the laws demand on our behalf. Have you accepted this? Have you accepted Jesus as your personal Savior? I pray you have. If you haven’t, there’s still time “for today is the day of salvation!
